Compilers and Compatiblity games

i have a question and sorry about my english

how do i know a compatiblity with a compiler can works with a hacks games
an example

a classic game like CS 1.6 and Quake 2 or Quake3
i have to use only Visual C++ 6.0

and new games like Battlefield 2 and COD4 we have to use Visual studio 2005 ~ 2008

because i want to develop cheat for Quake 2 and i have Visual studio 2008, i wanna know if i can use that compiler on it

other question when compile i want to unattach msvcrt90.dll from my program

i will be appreciated if someone help me
im intermermediate C++ programmer but for hacks 'im noob!
